Here, she muses about how she envisions a vacation visit from her grandchildren.<\/i><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> I remember riding on the train \u2013 backwards. It made me dizzy. My grandmother would pick me up in Brooklyn, New York and we\u2019d take the train to her home in Northeast Pennsylvania. She would keep me for a couple of weeks, or a month, and then take me back to my parents. I loved those visits.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9747\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wheelchairmommy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/AP-grandkids-e1437149287957.jpg\" alt=\"AP &amp; grandkids\" width=\"700\" height=\"527\"><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> I expected I\u2019d be doing the same thing with my grandkids when the time came. But that\u2019s never happened. They\u2019re far away. They\u2019re busy. They have plans. I have plans. And somehow, the opportunity never presents itself.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> My granddaughters have never poked through my jewelry box or worn my opera length pearls. They have not ransacked my hat boxes and posed in my old Easter bonnets or waddled about in my high heeled shoes.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> I wonder what it would take for me to get one of them under my roof for a week or two. Nothing short of kidnapping, I imagine.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> Would they like it? Would they want to hear the story of how an Asian craftsman took years to carve this ivory tusk? Would they serve tea in the same teacups from which their great grandparents sipped? Would they enjoy looking through old photos <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">and learning about relatives they have never met?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: #000000; line-height: 1.5;\">Or would they sit in my parlor playing video games or texting friends at home. Would the visit show how much I love them? Or bore them to tears?
