{"id":5505,"date":"2012-09-20T12:14:26","date_gmt":"2012-09-20T17:14:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wheelchairmommy.com\/?p=5505"},"modified":"2012-09-20T12:14:26","modified_gmt":"2012-09-20T17:14:26","slug":"nosebleeds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.wheelchairmommy.com\/closed\/2012\/nosebleeds\/","title":{"rendered":"Nosebleeds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lucas started getting nose bleeds this past spring.<\/p>\n<p>I can&#8217;t remember exactly when they started, but I didn&#8217;t really think anything of it the first time it happened.<\/p>\n<p>Time passed and he got another.<\/p>\n<p>Less time passed and he got another.<\/p>\n<p>I asked the doctor about them during his well check in May and he said not to worry. He wasn&#8217;t bleeding anywhere else so it was just something we&#8217;d have to get used to. He suggested we use saline to keep things moist and prevent scabs and thus nosebleeds.<\/p>\n<p>That didn&#8217;t help.<\/p>\n<p>Time went on and they became more frequent and lasted longer.<\/p>\n<p>They were NOT caused by dry air or rough play, but instead usually happened when it was humid (raining or after a shower) and when he was being as calm as calm could be. (sitting in the van or watching TV)<\/p>\n<p>He was also getting them at night.<\/p>\n<p>A couple of weeks ago he started wheezing and coughing so we took him back to the doctor and mentioned the nose bleeds again.<\/p>\n<p>It was suggested that we take him to an ENT.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, the wheezing and coughing cleared up on it&#8217;s own, but we now have in inhaler if it starts back up.<\/p>\n<p>I called the ENT.<\/p>\n<p>We went in.<\/p>\n<p>Sure enough he could see the bloody little thing that kept causing his bleeds.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5506\" style=\"width: 438px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wheelchairmommy.com\/2012\/nosebleeds\/hesready\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5506\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5506\" class=\" wp-image-5506 \" title=\"hesready\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wheelchairmommy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/hesready.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"428\" height=\"428\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.wheelchairmommy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/hesready.jpg 612w, http:\/\/www.wheelchairmommy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/hesready-100x100.jpg 100w, http:\/\/www.wheelchairmommy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/hesready-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.wheelchairmommy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/hesready-75x75.jpg 75w, http:\/\/www.wheelchairmommy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/hesready-110x110.jpg 110w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 428px) 100vw, 428px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-5506\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">He thought it was totally cool that his doctor sat in the SAME chair and had the SAME procedure the day before \ud83d\ude42<\/p><\/div>\n<p>He numbed the nostril and cauturized it right then and there. It took less than 10 minutes and Lucas sat perfectly still.<\/p>\n<p>He picked Play-Doh as his prize for being such a trooper.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s been a full week now and no more bleeds. So far.
