{"id":4265,"date":"2011-10-19T06:24:43","date_gmt":"2011-10-19T11:24:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wheelchairmommy.com\/?p=4265"},"modified":"2011-10-08T11:29:59","modified_gmt":"2011-10-08T16:29:59","slug":"the-story-of-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.wheelchairmommy.com\/closed\/2011\/the-story-of-me\/","title":{"rendered":"The story of me"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I originally wrote this in Dr. Past&#8217;s English class, \u00a0in Fall 2001, while attending CBC.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a mini biography of my life, to that point. WHo wants to take a peak?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #333399;\">On January the 15<sup>th<\/sup> 1981 in the small town of Shiner, Texas my mother gave birth for the ninth and final time.\u00a0 That\u2019s where I fit in.\u00a0 Ironically just over a month later my niece was born.\u00a0 I have four older brothers and four older sisters as well as two stepsisters, a stepbrother and a half brother.\u00a0 This of course makes it easy to see where a niece would come in so soon after I was born.\u00a0 She turned out to be number one of twenty to count.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\">My parents divorced before my second birthday and both have been remarried for as long as I can remember.\u00a0 When I was in kindergarten I had a sister die of an aneurysm.\u00a0 She was eighteen and newly married.\u00a0 I still remember details of the funeral. \u00a0 Since then I have encountered more than my share of deaths among loved ones.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\">The rest of elementary was fun, not my favorite at the time but now I wish I were there again.\u00a0 Everything was so simple.\u00a0 Decisions were based on whom to play with and whether or not to drink chocolate milk or stick with white milk at lunch.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\">By the time I reached High School I was more than ever eager to get out of school and be out on my own.\u00a0 What little did I know.\u00a0 I had no clue being an adult would be what it has turned out to be.\u00a0 Once again, what I wouldn\u2019t give to be that age again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\">Towards the fall of my junior year my mom and I started having problems getting along with one another, so I moved in with my dad.\u00a0 I made new friends and in May of 1999 graduated in the top third of my class.\u00a0 I\u2019m positive I could have excelled had I only studied more.\u00a0 Instead my job came first, than school.\u00a0 I still made As and Bs, but wish I could have been more focused.\u00a0 Immediately following graduation I started school at Lamar University-Orange for Summer I, and in the fall I enrolled at Lamar-Beaumont.\u00a0 As soon as classes started I moved in with my best friend. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\">In September of 1999, my life took a dramatic turn that has forever changed me. I was a victim in a car accident at left me paralyzed.\u00a0 I was only in the hospital for eight weeks and upon discharge moved back in with my mom.\u00a0 That may seem like a long time, but for the injury I received it\u2019s not typical. Over the past year and a half I have gone thru many struggles and have been enlightened in more ways than anyone can know. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\">The biggest, yet, most amazing struggle so far has been learning to drive again with hand-operated pedals.\u00a0 I must say I am rather enjoying the freedom driving again brings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\">The best times of my life have been the past two and a half months.\u00a0 I met a wonderful man from Austin that means the world to me.\u00a0 We are both very much in-love and in June 2002 look forward to spending the rest of our lives together as husband and wife.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A few things have changed since I wrote that. We did not get married in June 2002, instead in December and that grandkid count has increased by about 4 or 5. Oh, and the struggle to learn to drive?
