I thought they started doing this in 2nd grade, not K. It doesn&#8217;t really matter because he is so excited to read for us and only struggles through maybe 1-2 words per book. The rare occasion he just &#8220;gives up&#8221; and insists we tell him. We try to encourage him to sound it out, no matter how long it is.
