We love our family room.
When we moved into our house I was really excited about our family room. There is so many amazing plans for this space.
We knew we needed a new couch. We wanted a sectional. It would fit the space much better than the 3 piece set we had in our previous house. It wasn’t in the budget right away so we sold the chair and kept the sofa and loveseat. I truly love this set and clearly so do my kids.

The BIG Plans.
We painted the niches by the fireplace a deep peacock blue (it’s actually metallic and called HIGHGATE, available at home depot) to add a little pop of color. I absolutely love it! The plan is eventually hire someone to build shelves for a fun DIY project.
We still need to paint the walls a color similar to Sea Salt by Sherwin Williams or Silver Sage by Restoration Hardware. I haven’t quite decided which one. The wall color now is fine but it’s flat and it gets dirtier by the day.
I also want an area rug to anchor everything. Baby Steps. Baby Steps. I keep repeating that over and over in my head. It’s so easy to dream big but when it comes to doing it, it takes time and money.
I may also purchase a set of chairs to go by the BIG huge window.

Our old sofa was from Craig’s List and the paint color in the niches is Ralph Lauren’s Metallic HIGHGATE (Home depot no longer carries Ralph Lauren paint but they have their own metallic so you can still mix this color)

We finally found a sectional that we could both agree on and we jumped on it immediately. It was a craig’s list find, in fact ALL of sofas (except the one in our apartment) have been!
It’s off-white, leather and has 2 recliners. I absolutely love it. The recliners are big enough for (almost) everybody to snuggle. What more could I ask for?
You can also see the big, beautiful windows that provide light for the room. Aren’t they gorgeous?

My new Minted Wall Art
So, back to what more could I ask for. . . Well…. There was this BIG empty wall in the corner and it needed something. I just couldn’t figure what.
I love the antique mirror and tables that I inherited from my mother-in-law but as you can see in the photo above there is nothing on the adjacent wall.
Minted reached out to me about partnering with them. I browsed their site and I fell in love with one piece in particular. My husband started sailing when he was a student at The University of Texas and he took me our for our 3rd or 4th date. We also own a sailboat, so the nautical theme is near and dear. This print just gets me one step closer to a finished room. I LOVE how beautiful it is.

Keep it real!
Now, I want to keep everything as real as possible. There is a HUGE mess behind the sofa and most days there is also a charging cord for somebody’s iPad. They don’t call it family room for nothing. This is obvious from when we had the sofa set but it look very much like this most days.
