Non 365er

So … now that I have declared myself a NON 365er (we’ll see how long it lasts…chances are good I’ll come running to all of you next year with promises we all know I will never keep), here is what I do declare:

  1. To take BETTER pictures. and edit some of them for pity’s sake. QUALITY. NOT Quantity. Right?
  2. To do a WEEK IN THE LIFE PROJECT. It’s only a week? Right? I can do that?!!!! You can see what spawned the idea here — I will give you fair warning and create a special categorie link when I start this. Give me a leetle time and be warned that most if NOT ALL the pics may very well come from me iphone. (and yes I do intend to scrap them. What sane digital scrapper wouldnt?!
  3. This was so cool I so decided I had to do it. I SADLY think I want to wait until January. Ya know, when I’m 30 and all … to start it …. it I could start it NOW . As in MAY … and just do it forever. Not just a year. What do you think? May? or my 30th B-day?! ACK! Ok .So I seriously CAN NOT find the original blog post and I really want to scream. Anyways, this fellow scrapper does one LO every month with a photo of herself and the TOP 10 things she loves? that month (about that month) … I will likely make it the top 10 things inthe month of XXX and not really happy or sad / good or bad … just whatever feels right. Got it?! I’ll link you up when I find the idea I got it from.

SO — If I am going to take BETTER pictures and lug my good camera around don;t I need a cute camera strap!?? but…………… DH is still going to need to use and not feel akward so this one is out :(

Reversible Camera Strap - Fuchsia Birds and Blossoms

Hmmm….

Reversible Camera Strap - Black Ice Blooms

ooooh but that one would work nicely…..hmmmmmmmmm.

Doh! How can I forget?! My neighbor? and friend? Yeah. SHe has this neat little contraption called a sewing machine…I bet she would do it for me for PENNIES what those cost.

So my latest LO is a SHawna Clingerman Modge podge — I took several pieces from muliple kits but mostly BY MY SIDE and TITLE WORKS:BOYS bot available at Sweet shoppe Designs or My little Scraps.

ACK – ok … so I can’t upload after the server change … will update tomorrow.

Momma Zooms book

I saw that someone was searching for wheelchair mommy books! There is one out there for kids and it’s really quite cute!

So, if you come back, here it is!

My neighbor bought it for me and it had been on my wish list forever…. It’s simple but shows kids can have fun with a Mommy in a chair.

I quit. Again.

First off all, we have a new roof and my house has been sick. Except me. I’m scared I am going to start barfing any second. I hope not.

So I quit….

Well, I quit 365. I just can’t seem to do it. I put it off and put it off and then I drown in pictures. I’m flexible and don’t make myself perfect to the day but………

I am going to just stop.

I have a couple of scrappy friends that are doing some cool projects that I think I will do instead. They seem a little more attainable.

I’ll post soon about them….but one is really short but pretty time consuming and the other takes a year … .but not pictures… except one/month.

My baby graduated from Tiger Cubs!

Will has been working very hard and learning TaeKwonDo for one year, and last night he graduated from the Tiger Cub program and is officially a Junior. He will begin working towards a REAL black belt! We are so excited for him and proud of all of his hard work. We are also very grateful for all the hard work the instructors at Pflugerville TaeKwonDo Plus have put into teaching him, especially Mr. Steve Barkley!

We enjoy the entertainment portion of the awards ceremony a great deal. It’s just amazing to see people breaking boards and creating a personal form to music. Last night was no exception and Charlie managed to catch a few action shots as 3 of our black belts wowed the audience. (please click on the pictures if you wish to see a larger version, but excuse the quality … the lighting and actions shots made it difficult)

The time has come.

There was a day when all I had to worry about was lever handles. That’s it. We only have one. The front door. Easy-peasy. All we had to do was lock it. This weekend I got sick. I did lots of sleeping and hubby took care of the boys. Yesterday I was on my own again. Guess what? Magically, in that 48 hours my *almost* 2 year old some how learned to open the pantry door. Crap. And my bedroom door. nice. I guess we have to buy those door knob things. Which is your favorite? I think they are all virtually the same, right?

And while we are on the subject of crap…..guess who is interested in the potty? The same little suspect. I bought him a froggy potty and he loves to sit on it. He hasn’t gone IN it yet. Thankfully. He tends to sit on it and then put it on his head like a hat. I need to try and stop the hat thing. Hopefully before he deposits anything in it.

Plants. We had new plants put in front of the house and around the hot tub. We also planted a magnolia tree. Nice. I’ll have pictures soon.

I’m still worn out. I’ve been sleeping. A lot. I won’t even tell you. It’s embarrassing. My mom is here now so I can sleep a little more and hopefully clear this mess up.

Ooooh and I have another scrappy guest gig in May and applied for another full time team. I’m crazy, but I love scrapping.

Worst experience in my 5 years of motherhood.

Okay. I’m going to try and make this brief, it at all possible.

We got to our local chick-fil-a at LEAST once a week. It’s close and the boys like to play.

They are awesome there. They know me by my wheels. hahah.

Anyways, they have a door to the playscape that is perfect. It’s a little heavy for a 2 year old to open but he can sometimes but closes VERY slowly and is designed so it doesnt completely fit together and when it does there are these HUGE thick rubber things between the door  and the jam. I can clamp my hands together and stick it through and it doesn’t hurt.  It’s every parents DREAM. No matter what, your kid cant pinch his fingers and can all but put two arms all the way through.

Does that make sense!? I know doors are dangerous but this is one time I can let him have a LITTLE bit of independence. It’s so important not to always be one step behind your child so they can explore a little.

I was there with friends and we had finished eating. We could see the door and the playscape. Lucas was repeatedly coming in and out. They have a low handle on the door so kids can open for themselves, too. Lucas manages it about 1/2 the time and either gets me to open it for him or the person sitting immediatly next to the door opens it for him when they see he wants back in. (watching their kid because they don’t want in there with the noise).  No one has ever complained and even if I am sitting RIGHT next to them they always open it for him before I have time to roll over and do it myself.

Well, yesterday was just like any other day. I was 3 tables over, Lucas was coming and going. I went to check on him and when I rolled by a table I heard a little boy asking about my chair. I smiled and was going to go back and talk to him when I finished with Lucas. WHen I went back by they were fussing at him for something. Not really sure what. I decided not to approach him at that time.

I say got back into my spot and Lucas came back and wanted to eat some more and then went back.

Then, out of no where, the woman that was fussying at the boy approached me and started going off on me telling me I had a responsibility as a parent to protect my children and that my son was in danger. That door was going to pinch his fingers/hands and people she said people were getting uncomfortable and concerned with my lack of interest. (not true … no one else was even looking)

I smiled and said that I understood her concern and I was ususally worried about doors too but that this one was child safe, the door didnt reach the jam and there were huge rubber folds to add extra protection.

She told me she didt care and didn’t want to hear it. I told her if that was the case she needed to mind her own business because I was a regular and knew my son was safe from harm.

She then said the state has a responsibility to protect children and she can call the hotline anytime she wanted.

I actually laughed, I mean reall?! So I told her if you would like to call CPS, PLEASE by all means do. When they show up they will actually LOOK at the door and realize my son is not in danger.

She turned around and said well kids cut their hands off on doors ALL THE TIME.

She said back down.

Another minute passed and I went to throw something away. When I turned around she was standing there with her hands on her hips STARING at me.

She started to say something else but I told her she really needed to back off and mind her own business. Her daughter started to get antsy and told her to sit down several times.

At this point I am really upset. If this woman so much as touches my kid I will start fuming.

I go to get the kids their ice cream and decide I need to tell a manager about what happened because I can not interact wth her again.

As I tell him what happened I start crying.

He goes over and explains that I am a regular customer, I abide by the rules and that my son is afe because of the door…….

she doesn’t want to her it – she won’t even listen to HIM tell her the door is NOT going to pinch his fingers.

I get back to the table and she starts LAUGHING! really. Laughing.

When she leaves he says something else to her and she tells him she was head of CPS for 25 years and it’s her responsibiilty to make sure children are safe… he tries assuring her again but no luck – they shakes hands and she leave.  (he told me what she said after she left)

He told me that he hopes there was no animosity between them (him and other lady) but that if there was he didn’t care because he would rather have ME as a customer then her.

Crazy.

Distant cousin Series by Al Past

First off, yes I did get these books for “free”. Secondly, the Author was my English Professor at Coastal Bend College and I got them for free because we host his website.

There is also a blog, please check it out!

distnat

Alrighty. Wow. I never minded book reports in school, but when it comes to reviewing a book written by someone I KNOW and want others to read, I seem to be at a loss for words. Imagine that? Me? With nothing to say?

That’s precisely the problem. I have too much to say and I don’t want to give ANYTHING away. I want you to order them RIGHT now and read them so we can talk about them.

When I read the first book I had NO idea there would be second, third and fourth. I was thrilled each time another one came out though! I wonder if there will be a 5th?

Ok. So you probably want to AT LEAST know what it’s about? Well, it’s science fiction. A woman from another planet (Thomo) comes to Earth. There’s a bit of a love story. (She meets someone.) There are HUGE lessons in learning to accept others! (she’s an alien for crying out loud) There’s humor. There’s action & murder. There’s growth.

I can not pick a favorite out of the 4. I like them all. I would LOVE for Hollywood to pick this up. It would make an AWESOME mini series. Just incredible.

So there you have it. My ideas of how one should review a series, written by a friend; without spoiling anything. . . I will just tell my readers that they must just click below and order now.

Please.

And Thank you!

Distant Cousin
Distant Cousin: Repatriation
Distant Cousin: Reincarnation
Distant cousin: Regeneration

And the awesome Author asked that I add this:

People might like to know that the books are also available for Amazon’s Kindle, and also for nearly every other kind of e-reader, including a regular computer, the Nook, the iPad, and so forth, at Smashwords–and, they’re way less expensive than the paperbacks! That’s http://www.smashwords.com/books/search?query=distant+cousin. Enjoy!

Please post a comment if you have ANY questions about the book. I genuinely think you should read them; even if you are not big on Sci-Fi…

Julie’s Awesome soaps

I have this friend. She goes non-stop. She’s a stay at home Mom and has 4 incredible kids. Seriously. You couldn’t ask for more well behaved kids. She does what every stay at home mom does but she also has her own small business. She makes some of the most AWESOME soaps and lotions. Seriously. And for the record I am not being paid in soaps or in anything else to right this post. I am doing because her stuff is seriously too fun!

She has a Twilightish Collection for the Edward and Bella Fans out there. She even made a soap with a gun shape in it for some Cop friend’s we made. If you can think it up she can probably make it a soap for you. Oooh and let’s not forget the kids. She has some really fun puzzle shaped soaps for them. I can’t forget to mention the lip gloss and sugar scrubs. Yum.

If you would like to view a PDF file of some of products she made for the holidays click here. It also shows some of the scents she has available!

HEre are some pictures of her stuff.
